Family Fun Day

You know spring is officially here when T-Ball practice starts! Today was Logan's first day and, though I may be biased, he has a pretty wicked arm. If we could just get him past the whole "I can't catch cause I'm scared of the ball" thing, we'll be golden. He can hit from either side, which is pretty awesome. Games start March 1 - we've got a lot of practicing to do before then!

It was such a beautiful day, momy felt a bit Mary Poppins and decided chalk drawings on the drive were in order. I drew Spongebob and Patrick with rainbows and flowers because "It's the Best Day Ever." Logan got into hopscotch while Cai was off in his own little RainMan world and Kat VonD chased the moles that have been tearing up our yard. (Yes, I know Kat VonD is a little OBVIOUS for a cat's name, but my son is 6. It's his cat and he loves Kat. What can I say? We'll not mention that the cat is a boy either.....)

Painfully Happy Valentine's Day

Two life-altering experiences happened on this day in our history.

8 years ago today, my love, my soul mate, my best friend proposed to me on bended knee with a ring hidden inside a specially imported chocolate KinderEgg from Germany.

The "pain" comes from the memory that it was 2 years ago today we decided to start on this journey of adoption. It was 2 years ago today that I saw this picture and fell in love. Moise was 6 years old at the time and we knew instantly that he was our son. It was not, however, until May that Rodelin (or Phoenix as we have renamed him) would also be joining our family fun train.

It has been two grueling, emotional, roller coaster years of processing and waiting, moving one step forward and two steps back. We are close, relatively (nothing in Haiti is for sure and nothing follows a logical time table) and we can see the light at the end of the tunnel. But it is days like today, when the moment of realization hits, that bring tears to my eyes. It 's moments liek this afternoon, when my Cai comes out of my bedroom holding a picture of Phoenix saying "Mommy, can I share my Happy Valentine's Day chocolates with my best brother Phoenix?" that I can't contain the well of emotion any longer and choke on my own longing. So often it feels as though they will never come home. And so often, I have to look around at our current circumstances and what we have gone through and KNOW that God's timing and plan are perfect and sufficient.

So here is to the happy day our lives were forever changed, first as a couple, then as a family! Happy Valentine's Day!

Tuesday Friend

IMG_0108
I have a friend. A friend who calls every Tuesday night, without fail. A friend who listens. A friend who loves. A friend who makes me laugh. A friend who gives me more credit than I deserve. A friend who is...a friend.
Yeah - you rock, babe.

Check out my new blog Reality Remixd
It's the darker side of Heather with random rants, ramblings and rememberies from my oddball childhood. It may not be pretty and you may not agree with it, but this is the world the way eye see it.

Spring has Sprung!

There is a crispness, a freshness in the air. It came through with the front last night and kindly greeted us as we awoke this morning. The grass was a little greener, the animals seemed a little happier. Robins littered the ground, hopping and chirping, searching for their breakfast, while squirrels chased behind them, eager for whatever the robins had dug up. Spring is peeking, ever so shyly, around the edge of winter's long, gray coat, begging like a child on a too long car trip: "Are we there yet?" "Almost," I whispered in reply as I picked up 3 newly arrived baby chicks from the feed store and brought them home as a new school project for Logan. Even if this dream, this Utopian lifestyle we desired for our family is short lived, my children will experience everything it has to offer and will carry with them rememberies of a great adventure. Rejoice! Spring has sprung!

Caribbean Kitchen!

Can you smell it? The kind of smell that slaps you in the face as you walk in the door from a long day of work, wrapping its arms around you and easing you gently into bliss? The kind of smell that hearkens sounds of steel drums and images of bright colors and beautiful, black skin shining in the sun. Hints of lime, tomato and vinegar....mmmmmm...Creole Goat!

The Breaking of the Beauty

Since Jeremy had a job over the weekend down in Miami, my parents came to keep me company. My dad took the opportunity to start training our pony and it was a roller coaster of bucking and running and near-miss kicks. So, here are the pics for your general amusement.
